JAN EDWARDS IS A FUNCTIONAL POTTER WHO LOVES TO PLAY WITH COLOR.
For the last 30+ years I have been making Pots and Architectural Tiles, first in Colorado, now in Portland, Oregon. I received the best of my Ceramic education at Anderson Ranch Art Center in Colorado, under a variety of excellent mentors. Earlier Design and Fine Art background has lead me into experimenting with decorative processes, trying to put line, pattern and color on clay. I can’t stop.
I work in a small passive solar studio, at my home in Portland, Oregon. I teach part time at the Multnomah Art Center and Mount Hood Community College.
I love to travel, especially teaching workshops. I’ve been fortunate to teach in Mexico, Canada, Italy and many fine locations around the U.S.
When traveling, I never goes anywhere without a sketchbook. “Not only do I end up with lots of drawings & paintings, but I feel that drawing connects me to a place at a deeper level”
Lately I’ve been making prints and starting to show them. I’m showing paintings too, much to my surprise
My work is in collections around the US and in Japan, Mexico, Canada and Italy. My work is also represented in several books on ceramics.
Jan was chosen by the Oregon Potters Association to receive the prestigious "Bennet Welch Award" for Surface Decoration in 2002.
